Water Animals
Water is the source of life. Almost every living thing we know either lives in water or somehow needs water to survive. When we observe nature, we see many different kinds of animals. Some of these are animals that can be kept at home, some live outside, in nature, and some live on farms and in the water. In this article, we will discuss animals that live in water. First, let’s start with fish, the first animal species that comes to mind when we say water, and take a look at other familiar species.
Fish: Fish make up the majority of aquatic animals. There are a large number of fish species and many fish species of different colors. We can say that all fish live in water. However, some live in oceans and salty seas, while others live in fresh waters. Freshwater fish live in rivers, streams and lakes. Examples of freshwater fish are trout, carp, pike and salmon. If we look at fish living in salt water, sharks and whales can be given as examples.
Reptiles: Maybe there are more reptiles than we can count. Although they are generally creatures living in hot, humid and arid places, there are also reptile species living near waters and lakes. We can give the crocodile as an example. Sea snakes, sea turtles, striped sea cobra, and marine iguana are also aquatic reptiles.
Birds: There are many different types of birds that we can keep both outside and at home. But birds are creatures that can live almost anywhere. They usually prefer tree cavities and can also be observed nesting on the slopes of mountains and on the roofs of some houses. Some of these special creatures, which can live almost anywhere in our world, also have the ability to swim in water. We can give penguins as an example. Seagulls, like penguins, meet their nutritional needs by hunting other aquatic creatures, such as fish.
Insects: In general, they are a living species that is not liked by most of the people. Although they are not very popular, insects are also a living species and can live in different places. In addition, they make very important contributions to nature. They generally live in landfills or green areas. Yet they don’t just live in landfills or green spaces. There are also insect species living in the seas, but they constitute a very small percentage of the total insect species. We can classify water beetle species as gnats, mosquitoes, chironomus, mayflies and stoneflies.
We can’t finish counting the animals living in the water. While we cannot give an exact number even for land-dwelling animals, if we take into account that 71% of the world we live in consists of water and only the remaining 29% is land, our conclusion is of course that the number of animals living in water is much higher. In this article, we discussed some animal species living in fresh or salt water. Still, many more animals live in water than we count.
