Reptiles Animals

Reptiles are very common animals in nature. There are about six thousand species and these animals generally live on land. Temperate and warm climate-loving reptiles have an endoskeleton, but some also have an exoskeleton consisting of keratinized scales. The skin of reptiles is hard and has a keratin structure, so skin respiration is not observed. This structure also enables these animals to prevent water loss. Reptiles breathe through the lungs.

The heart of reptiles, whose hearts consist of two auricles and a ventricle, is three-chambered, but the ventricles have a half ventricle. Oxygen-rich and poor blood mixes in the ventricle, and mixed-blood circulates throughout the body. Reptiles are cold-blooded creatures and hibernate. Internal fertilization and external development are observed in these animals. To minimize water loss, nitrogenous excretion waste is uric acid. The most familiar representatives in nature are crocodiles, lizards, and snakes. The hearts of crocodiles are four-chambered and rich and poor blood do not mix in the heart of crocodiles.

In general, reptiles can live in water and on land. They are animals whose members are vestigial or located very close to the ground. Turtles, lizards, snakes, and crocodiles are reptilian creatures living today.

Crocodiles

Crocodiles are a group that includes reptiles whose bodies are covered with bony scales, living in swamps and watersides in warm regions. The families of this order are Alligatoridae, Crocodylidae, and Gavialidae. Crocodiles are among the closest living relatives of birds. Crocodiles and birds are the last living members of the Archosauria group. The Crocodilia order is one of the members of the Crurotarsi group, which emerged in the Triassic period about two hundred and twenty million years ago, and was divided into various shapes in the Mesozoic period. Crocodiles live mostly in Africa, America, Madagascar, South and East Asia, and Central Australia. Crocodiles use their tongues to catch insects or prey.

Turtles

Tortoises are four-legged and slow walking creatures that live in a very hard and bony shell that makes up the order Testudines. Even though they are slow and unhurried animals in terms of their movements, their development has been slower throughout history. These animals appeared, along with other reptiles, in the Triassic Age, the first period of the Mesozoic. For two hundred million years, the body structure of turtles has not undergone any significant changes. Despite this, turtles are one of the oldest non-extinct animals on earth. Turtles use their tongues to deceive fish.

Lizards

Lizards are a common type of scaly reptile with more than six thousand species varying across most oceanic island chains as well as on all continents except Antarctica. The group is paraphyletic as it excludes snakes and Amphisbaenia. Lizards range in size from a few centimeters long chameleons and geckos to a three-meter long komodo dragon. Most of these animals are quadrupedal, but they run with a strong side-to-side motion. Some lineages have lost their legs secondarily and have long snake-like bodies. Snakes use their tongues to detect scents.
